Build Your Website For Humans

It’s easy to get caught in a trap when writing content for the web. All too often business owners will write far too much content, they’ll focus on the wrong subjects when writing for their website, or they’ll get bogged down in writing content for search engine optimisation.

This can result in less than optimal performance once the website is live: higher bounce rates, and little to no conversions.

So let’s take a step back.

Probably THE most important question I ask my clients is: “who is this website for?”

Don’t over complicate.

Think about why people are visiting your site:

  1. To find your phone number/email address/physical address
  2. To check out your credibility (are you a real business, are you legitimate, are you local?)
  3. To find out whether you provide the product or service they are looking for

As long as you answer the above three questions, you are on the right track.

Too Long Didn't ReadHere’s some examples of unnecessary content:

  • Including every variation of your products and services along with in-depth pricing information
  • The life story of every employee, their families, and their pets
  • War and peace-type detail about the history of the business and what you do

You need to supply visitors to your website with just enough information so that they have their questions answered and then feel comfortable and motivated to take the next step, which could be picking up the phone or sending an email.

Writing your website content doesn’t need to be difficult, it’s just a matter of taking a step back and keeping in mind your audience.

In fact, you don’t need as much content as you think. If you’d like more advice on composing your website content, JJ Marketing are experts in Content Optimisation – ask us for an obligation free consultation today.
